Health Conscious Alcoholic Drinks

Let’s face it, it is hard to see the benefits of eating healthy and exercising regularly when consuming drinks with friends every weekend! Many alcoholic beverages are filled with sugar, carbs and calories that may cause extreme headaches, bloating and bad hangovers. Cutting out alcohol completely is the most effective way to detox your body and start seeing the results you work so hard in the gym for. But if completely cutting out alcohol is not realistic for you, start by swapping out sugary alcoholic drinks for more simple, organic and low calorie cocktails.

Being healthy while drinking may seem like a challenge, but it is not impossible. Here are some of my favorite “healthy” alcoholic beverages!

Michelob Ultra Organic Seltzer

It is time you swap your 100 calorie white claws for Michelob Ultra’s new organic seltzers! Each drink only has 80 calories and 0 grams of sugar. These seltzers are gluten free and the signature pack flavors include peach pear, cucumber lime, and spicy pineapple. These seltzers are slightly less carbonated and contain 4% alcohol, reducing bloating and headaches. Cucumber lime is my personal favorite with its spa-water-like laste!

Thrive Market Organic Wine

Drinking organic wine instead of non-organic wine helps to reduce headaches and hangovers. Thrive market has a great selection of organic wines to choose from!

Simple Margaritas

At your next Monday Margarita night with the girls be sure to completely skip the margarita mix! Store bought margarita mix is high in calories and full of sugar that will leave you with a pounding head and horrible hangover the next morning, not to mention all the sugar could give you an upset stomach right away! Save your money on the mix, and try this super simple margarita recipe instead (recipe makes one margarita):

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and then flip the glass upside down on a plate of salt to salt the rim

  2. Fill shaker with ice cubes

  3. Add in 1 ½ ounces (about 3 tablespoons) of Don Alvaro Blanco Tequila into the shaker (Casa Noble Crystal Tequila is certified USDA organic)

  4. Add in 3 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lime juice

  5. Add in 1 ½ tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice

  6. Shake and pour into your ice-filled glass and enjoy!
